Microneedling

As our skin starts to age we start to notice changes in our skin, such as decreased collagen production, sagging skin, loss of hydration, rough texture and the damage caused by sun and pollutants start to appear. Microneedling is an extremely effective treatment suitable for treating all of these concerns, and more.

By creating tiny micro-channels in the upper dermis with the DermaPen, the skin is triggered to respond by producing new collagen-rich tissue, which is more even in tone and texture. To further enhance the benefits of microneedling, a targeted serum is applied prior to needling, which will have been carefully selected to treat the specific concern you have.

Common areas of concern which our various serums are designed for and proven to treat:

  • Sun spots
  • Wrinkles & creases
  • Acne prone or ‘problem’ skin
  • Scarring
  • Dry skin
  • Sagging skin
  • Hair thinning

FAQs

The micro channels cause keratinocytes and fibroblasts to produce numerous growth factors to induce collagen and elastin production, that in turn generate new skin cells to repair itself. Blood supply is also enhanced without leaving any damage to the epidermis at all. Over the following weeks the skin becomes thicker, plumper and more youthful.
This will depend on your cell renewal process, as this slows down as we age. In general it can take up to 6 weeks to see any results, however the regeneration process will continue over the following months giving a gradual enhancement.
This will be dependent on a number of factors including age, area being treated, skin condition and damage. In most cases we always recommend a course of either 4 or 6 treatments, generally spaced between 2-3 weeks apart. It is recommended to continue with maintenance treatments after your course, with much longer between each session.
Microneedling is safe, with minimal side effects or risks associated. The skin will be red in appearance for a few hours following microneedling treatment, much like moderate sunburn, with some minor bleeding and bruising possible. The area will feel warm, dry or tight for a short while. Other side effects typically include minor flaking or dryness of the skin, with scab formation in rare cases. If you have a history of cold sores, this could possibly flare up after treatment.
The area will be anaesthetised with a topical local anaesthetic and therefore should not be painful. However some areas such as the top of the forehead, upper lip and jawline are slightly more sensitive to treat. Microneedling is supported by clinical studies, and shown to be an effective non-surgical and non-ablative treatment for a variety of skin conditions. These include ageing, (wrinkles, fine lines, and stretch marks), scarring (acne and surgical), as well as cellulite and hyperpigmentation. Studies have also shown that microneedling is often a better treatment than dermabrasion, chemical peels, and laser resurfacing. It is proven to be just as effective in its ability to stimulate collagen and elastin production. Regular microneedling can thicken skin, smooth scars of all sizes, and erase wrinkles.
